Nearly 100 people participated in the 11th Annual Training Edition, which we have held in Ibiza every year for the past 11 years. Healthcare Personnel, Firefighters, Police, Civil Guard, and Forest Rangers were the five professional groups taking part in this 11th edition across three offered training programs:

  • Drug Poisoning & Intoxications
  • Firefighters and Healthcare Staff
  • Management of Aggressive Individuals and Hostile Areas.

All of these are in-person training programs accredited by the Continuing Education Commission for Healthcare Personnel, taught by an experienced teaching team. Each course includes a textbook developed by Emergency Staff, which we re-edit annually to incorporate all necessary updates across the various subjects.

One key conclusion we arrive at with every new edition is that promoting joint, comprehensive training between healthcare personnel and other emergency responders remains absolutely vital. We sincerely believe public administrations should promote this approach, as every year we observe how different emergency teams (even with highly experienced individuals in their respective fields) struggle to operate in the seamlessly integrated manner needed to minimize morbidity and mortality in emergency scenarios.

Another conclusion that over the years has become an indisputable certainty is that emergency healthcare personnel should be trained in drug intoxications, as intoxicated patients are increasingly arriving at emergency rooms and clinics. This is precisely why doctors, nurses, assistants, and EMTs attend this course every year to learn how to manage intoxicated patients. It is a theoretical-practical course updated annually with reports and statistics gathered from the various nightlife environments where our healthcare staff operates. Recreational drugs are an ever-evolving reality, with changing consumption rates, popularity, and chemical compositions every year. New drugs emerge, new variants of known substances appear, new administration routes are used… and all of this translates into a high volume of intoxicated patients who, when there is no on-site medical team at the venue or event, end up filling hospital and health center emergency rooms.

We dare say—backed by our students’ feedback every year—that our Drug Poisoning & Intoxications course is one of the best, most updated, and most comprehensive training programs offered in our country on this subject. A percentage of students who complete this course join our medical team working in Ibiza’s nightlife venues during the summer season, as we hire between 25 and 30 nurses and doctors each year who must be fully qualified to manage recreational drug intoxications.

Thank you to everyone who participated in this 11th annual training edition! We hope you can apply everything you learned to your daily work. Below is a brief photo summary. As for us, it’s time to start working on the 12th edition!
