Lluís Andrés Tubau, alongside Andrés García Córdoba, is one of the founders of Emergency Staff. The company, contracted by the main nightlife venues in Ibiza, aims to provide on-site medical care to those in need of assistance.
What exactly is Emergency Staff?
In technical terms, it is a company specializing in healthcare assistance in entertainment settings. We handle all types of emergencies in this field, ranging from nightlife venues to sporting events—essentially any event carrying health and safety risks that warrants medical presence. Our product centers on tailoring medical coverage to each event. Based on the specific needs and characteristics of the occasion, we provide the appropriate equipment, ambulance types, etc.—whatever is best suited for that event.
When is your peak season?
Peak season is always between May and October, covering almost every night as well as late afternoons and evenings. In winter, by contrast, we focus more on medical education and organizing courses.
Where is the company deployed?
We operate across the island’s main nightlife venues. We are also present at various special events organized throughout the year.
How does Emergency Staff operate?
At venues where we provide regular coverage, we conduct a site risk management assessment of the facility and environment, considering numerous variables: security arrangements, air conditioning availability, event schedule, restroom layout, emergency exit locations, etc. Based on this inspection, we set up a medical station in the optimal location for patient care and response times to potential incident zones. We establish a professional medical room equipped with everything from basic first aid supplies to advanced emergency care gear, customized to client requirements.
How many staff members do you deploy per medical station?
Based on the event’s risk management assessment, we consult staffing tables and historical statistics from previous years to estimate requirements. If during an event we observe a need for additional staff, we dispatch extra personnel.
What are the most frequent medical emergencies?
Nearly half of the patients we have treated over these years—totaling approximately 7,000—suffered from drug intoxications. Among these patients, we avoid hospital transfers in 95% of cases, preventing a massive strain on public healthcare. The remainder typically involves minor wound care, dizziness, or fainting spells. Thanks to the awareness of venue owners who hire us, public emergency services do not get overwhelmed, resulting in substantial savings for public funds.
