Emergency Staff will handle medical emergencies in the Sant Antoni bar district to ensure the fastest possible response

This afternoon, a training session was held with all key stakeholders to coordinate response protocols during potential emergency scenarios

SANT ANTONI, June 5, 2014 (IMAM COMUNICACIÓN)

Sant Antoni’s West End district will feature a private medical service this summer to respond to various emergency incidents. In doing so, the West End Association steps up to guarantee comprehensive and immediate healthcare coverage during emergencies. To facilitate coordination among all security stakeholders in Sant Antoni’s nightlife, a training session took place this afternoon at the Cervantes School conference room in the municipality, bringing together Association members, civic officers, Sant Antoni Local Police, the NGO 247, and the British Consulate. As Lluís Andrés Tubau, Healthcare Director at Emergency Staff, explained: “This workshop is essential so that all professionals involved in an emergency know how to coordinate and ensure that injured individuals receive optimal care as quickly as possible.”

Bar and venue owners, bartenders, door staff, local police officers, civic officers, and other stakeholders learned basic first aid guidelines and immediate response protocols for any type of emergency at any time.

This initiative, promoted by the West End Association, stems from the risks posed by large crowds gathering every night in the area’s bars during summer. Tubau emphasized that “it is a particularly challenging area for ambulance access because streets are narrow and packed with people,” adding that “we believe having on-the-ground medical care is a major step forward, both for customer safety and for relieving public emergency services from these cases.”

Last year, a fire response drill was conducted in the West End at one of the local venues. Over one hundred extras participated in the simulation, which demonstrated how existing security and health services could quickly become overwhelmed without specialized support. The Healthcare Director stressed that “the West End in Sant Antoni is like a giant open-air nightclub, making it vital to rely on highly trained professional services capable of operating quickly and effectively in such environments to prevent safety incidents.”

As the healthcare professional points out, “emergency drills have been conducted in many public places such as airports or beaches, but the fact is that nightlife areas like Sant Antoni had not received the attention they required in terms of safety until now,” he concluded.
