IBIZA, September 10, 2015

Casa Santa Teresa in Es Cubells will host the 4th Edition of the Management of Aggressive Patients in Hostile Areas (CPAH) Course, delivered by Ibiza company Emergency Staff from September 14th to 16th. This nationwide pioneering training program is designed for 40 participants, including doctors, nurses, emergency technicians, members of the National and Local Police, Civil Guard, Civil Protection, and 061 emergency services from Ibiza and across Spain.

As Andrés García Córdoba, Training Director at Emergency Staff, announced, five specialized instructors across various disciplines will deliver the theoretical and practical sessions to the 40 enrolled participants in this edition. “Professionals are coming to Ibiza from all over Spain to receive this nationally accredited training, which will be of immense value in their daily work,” specifies García Córdoba.

As the Training Director highlights: “It is essential that we learn to evaluate hostility and health emergency situations early on, in order to safely access locations where we are needed and take action.” Along these lines, the expert explains that the course will combine theoretical classes with practical workshops recreating high-stress situations faced by these professional groups. “The goal is to equip clinicians with the skills to better treat these patients, prevent and reduce risk scenarios, and navigate the ethical and legal aspects of medical care,” summarizes the Training Director.

This course also features realistic simulations with actors led by ES Dramatic—a theater company created by Emergency Staff—designed to place students in real-life scenarios and teach them to resolve difficulties arising during emergency situations. Highlights include a beach exercise demonstrating intraosseous vascular access in critical patients, as well as scenarios involving aggression toward healthcare staff and police, alongside emergency sedation for agitated patients using mucosal atomization devices. Both techniques are performed thanks to the collaboration of multinational company Teleflex.

This initiative aims to establish the island as a national benchmark in specialized training through certified courses accredited by the Continuing Education Commission (CFC) of the Balearic Health Ministry and the Spanish Ministry of Health.

High-Risk Professions

Andrés García Córdoba describes the CPAH course as “a milestone” in healthcare training, as it brings together medical personnel with law enforcement officers—including Local Police, National Police, Civil Guard, Civil Protection members, and Ibiza 061 personnel—for the first time in Spain “so that everyone knows which protocols to follow in a hostile situation and how to act jointly in the most effective manner.”

“We want them to know how to respond in high-stress situations and prevent potential aggression, turning workplaces into safe environments. Since we work with the groups that suffer the most attacks, it is crucial to equip them with precise tools for verbal patient de-escalation, physical restraint, and sedation, placing strong emphasis on coordinated teamwork,” concludes García Córdoba.
