The medical healthcare company Emergency Staff delivered a full-day training session on automated external defibrillator (AED) use and Basic Life Support today at the Ibiza Fire Station.
The course ran from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Practical exercises inside the training tower featured simulated scenarios with actors recreating an emergency incident packed with smoke, casualties, and intense action.
The training provided by Emergency Staff to the firefighting team serves as a certification and accreditation course for operating semi-automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and delivering Basic Life Support (BLS).
Miguel Sevilla, head of the Ibiza Fire Station, noted that “although we have received training in this subject before—most recently in June 2013 from the 061 team—we consider it vital to continue our education and refresh our skills in these procedures.”
Mastering these techniques and applying an AED during the first minutes of cardiorespiratory arrest are of paramount importance for all emergency responders, as immediate intervention drastically increases victim survival rates.
As emergency responders, firefighters are first on the scene, making their rapid intervention vital.
In this course, Emergency Staff implemented its EST (Emergency Stress Training) methodology to bring maximum realism to practical modules and deliver knowledge through immersive experience.
As Andrés García Córdoba, Training Director at the company, notes: “The goal is to expand the knowledge of Ibiza firefighters in defibrillator operation and improve the overall quality of emergency services for citizens.”
These courses are certified by the Balearic Government and comprise both theoretical and practical components divided into two four-hour sessions. Training is conducted using trainer defibrillators—exact replica devices of the units installed in their emergency vehicles. García Córdoba concludes that these units “are simple to operate and extremely safe for patients.”
Emergency Staff distributes next-generation defibrillators on the island—something that the Training Director considers “a major advantage, as we can directly recommend the best unit for each scenario, explain its operation, and resolve any operational issues.”
