Summer is finally here, and as tech users/fans, we want to recommend 3 apps that we use regularly to enhance the beach experience before even stepping onto the sand. Because, as we always advocate, technology is here to serve us and not the other way around; in fact, when balance is lost, the responsibility (rather than guilt, which is an unproductive concept) lies with us. Of course, there are tons of apps out there, so it’s impossible to know them all—if you have your own favorites, feel free to leave them in the comments and we’ll be happy to check them out.
- Windy.app

With this app available on iOS and Android, you can know everything before setting foot on the beach: wind, waves, rain, everything. It’s extremely useful if you live in Ibiza because depending on the wind direction you can choose a beach on one side of the island or the other to stay comfortable. And of course, it helps you decide if it’s a good day for sailing or to remember motion sickness pills if you’re traveling to the mainland and the sea is rough. If you’re going to download it, look for the blue icon so you don’t get the wrong app—there’s another similar one, but we prefer this one.
2. Medusas Ibiza (Jellyfish Ibiza)

Available on both iOS and Android, this app alerts you if there are jellyfish at the beach before you arrive. Furthermore, you can register and post alerts yourself if you spot jellyfish. It also includes a short guide on what to do if you get stung.
3. UV Derma

The Spanish Academy of Dermatology and Venereology and the Piel Sana Foundation are behind this skin protection app. You can include all family members by specifying their skin phototype. The app then calculates sun exposure risks based on location and time to determine the amount of radiation reaching the earth’s surface. It also features a section with information on the UV index, vitamin D, photosensitivity, and skin cancer prevention, paying special attention to children’s skin. Naturally, general advice is to apply sunscreen before leaving home whether you’re heading to the beach or not, wear a hat or cap, bring a sun umbrella to the beach, and avoid sun exposure during peak midday hours—but if you enjoy knowing all the details, you’ll love this app.
