On June 9th, the Emergency Staff team delivered an awareness workshop at the Hard Rock Hotel Ibiza Convention Center for the personnel of Hï Ibiza, Ushuaïa, and UNVRS. The primary focus: reinforcing action protocols such as Ask for Angela to ensure people’s safety in nightlife spaces and identifying symptoms of commonly used psychoactive substances.
Ask for Angela: A key tool against sexual violence
“Is Angela working tonight?” is much more than just a phrase. It is an internationally recognized distress code created to protect vulnerable individuals, particularly against potential cases of chemical submission (drug-facilitated assault) or inappropriate behavior in nightlife venues. During the session, staff learned how to respond if a guest uses this code, reinforcing the venues’ commitment to guest safety and well-being.
Understanding commonly used substances
Another central pillar of the training focused on identifying substances such as GHB, ketamine, MDMA, or benzodiazepines, which are often involved in chemical submission cases. We explained their effects, administration methods, and warning signs, empowering staff to respond swiftly and effectively whenever suspicions arise.
Life-saving education
This initiative forms part of Emergency Staff’s ongoing commitment to elevating health safety across Ibiza’s key gathering venues through specialized training, educational interventions, and professional response protocols. Personnel from these three iconic nightlife hotspots are now equipped to prevent risks and provide a safe, empathetic, and effective response.
